ok, some of you might know that i have my warped dream child of a game in the works. I am working on making a 2d fighter (like street fighter, king of fighters, etc.) of members of our club doing battle. Currently i have 2 people working on this project but was wondering if any other people with computer or art talent would like to work for me on this project.
Current needs: Copy of Mugen Program ( easy way to build a game ) If anyone can code a engine for us instead thats even better. Sprite animators / Air animations Background artists Music Mixer / Composter
Again this is my warped baby. I will do this on my own if I get no more help. The only other thing I have to add is this: IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE IN MY GAME LET ME KNOW. I respect peoples wishes not to be made into a 2d sprite and made to fight to the death every match.
First Batch of fighters will probably be our more well known members and officers.

A project like this is definately going to need more people. Even if one or two people know how to do everything, they may end up getting bored and uninspired at some point.
If you'd like, I could help with sprites, but most likely if they're hand drawn and scanned first. Just don't rely on me too much as I haven't done that much personal sprite work recently.

whats a sprite look like just to make sure sprites are what you see when you look at a 2d fighting game character. think of like a flip book style of doing animation. thats what sprites are used for. I am looking for high quality styling for Chico Jac Fighters. Hope that answered your question.

I believe I'm one of the two people that are suppose to be working on this project with you Clayton. When am I supposed to work on these sprites? I mean, are you going to give me any character descriptions so I can start working on them? Cause I mean, I don't have a ton of free time right now, but I could always start working on sketches and then transfer them to the computer (cause my mom rocks and bought me a drawing-platform for my computer! ^.^)
Tell me what's up with this project.

ok here is a run down of what i have so far: Mugen Engine (basics for doing the game) - Found a copy and am working on figuring out how to build everything. Characters - basic characters fleshed out. Sprites - nothing so far (I have basic sketchs though)
I figure that this will be an on going project kind of thing. I was figuring that this would be a work of time, figure nothing gets going till next semester starts anyway because of summer.

It's quite unlikely that we'll be able to finish the game by the time the school seimester is over unless we get alot of good programers/artists in this seimester.
There's also the problem keeping interest and dissagreements. You should allow everyone to send in suggestions and go over them to see what would help keep the balance and unoverpowers.
Also, you need to make everyone know that you're the leader of the project and that you can make due if someone threatens to quit. Alot of projects die because of disagreement.
Lastly if I were to have any suggestions. Could my character (if I'm even in the game. I wouldn't mind just being in a background) be a defensive type character? I love using attacks that would work against button mashers. I have ideas for moves but I don't want to sound too greedy right now.
Actually, tell us the basic ideas for the characters right now so we can see if we like or not.

currently the only characters I have planned out are the leadership people : Trisha Julie Jerriod Myself (whats the point of making a game if your not in it?)
figure other people will want their own characters but its going to be like this: you make it, I will try and work it in.
again this doesnt mean this is free licence to go wild, but figure when we get the game running for the most part we can start working on extras.
Also on backgrounds: I have a few ideas, but ideas would be welcome. also anyone who does up a background and posts it is really welcome.
Currently we have these locations: Club Meeting CyberSpace
and for music, basicly i will ask people (or just make up my own mind) for background music or sound effects. Mostly on that figure that is a finishing touch and will be last on my list of things to do. The most likely thing will be that each person will tell me their favorite Anime theme and that will be background music for their fight.

Oh gees that sounds like fun. I would like to see what some of these characters look like. I'm just a lazy bum who never does anything. (crying alone somewhere)
Hee - I've had so many characters I've created and droped - so many . . . . (in deep thought)
I don't know very much about makeing a game but I would like to know how you guys are doing. If I could be of any help just let me know . . . untill then I'll be working on my website and stuff.

As a quick update, Chico JAC fighters is in production phaze. Meaning we are working on getting sprites made, making characters, setting up backgrounds and such. I am still looking for a few good animators. I dont care if you only do it on paper, we can scan them. right now i need peeps with free time to work on it. Also i am hoping to have a prototype done by the end of october. when that is done i will bring it into club and show it off.

i wonder will you distribute the game to club members ... for a price ;D money for club Yay probably not sell it, i will probably just give it out for free to CLUB MEMEBERS (cause I like doing stuff for members)... looks like i might have a demo up by early november. setbacks because of busy scheduals have really taken a toll.

If this is something that is going to work then people need to see Clayton about the drawing and animating of the sprites.
I can't because I don't have a computer of my own.
But for *Hyne's(*God from FF 8) sake talk to him about helping him!!!!

did you guys ever finish this game? is it still in the works? on hiatus(sp?)? if the work done on it so far can be recovered, i wouldnt mind trying to revive it... It never really died. I have character sketches and designs down for 3- 4 characters, an Idea for how to make the sprites, and the engine ready for import. I just have been doing it in my spare time. Plus some of the major players changed causing it to be somewhat dated. Over all I hope to work on it next semester and get a working prototype out by May. If you want to help, Contact me and i can let people know more about it.
