If anyone doesn't know this nothing to worry about. Does anyone know how to make a mkv file? With a mkv file, you can watch an anime with two different languages and subtitles. It's like watching anime on your computer without bringing all the DVDs to watch them. Can anyone help me out?

It might also help to know what your starting source is if you are using an existing file. System specs also would help. At least so far as what operating system.

I ripped everything from the DVDs so I have everything I need to make a mkv file. What else do you need to know?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever used these files before or ever make a mkv file before I asked this question? The reason why I asked because I used these programs before but I didn't have directions with them at the time.

I've never made one myself but if you want, I can look into it and try my own? I use mkv files all the time. Its my preferred format right now.

Well I managed to make a mkv file today but it has only has English. I want it to have both English and Japanese audios with English subtitles. I managed to make a mkv with help from a tutorial on Youtube. It works but not the way I wanted it to be.

mkvmerge is your friend. it's part of mkvtoolnix, available here: www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/downloads.html. If you're gonna encode a lot or in multiple formats, i recommend downloading this package: www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/amvapp.html. i make mkvs with multiple tracks for fansubs. I use virtualdubmod (found in the amvapp) for creating the video stream (usually with x264 codec), an audio program for creating the mp3 or aac, and mkvmerge to put it all together and create the chapters. It's fast, easy, and the way 99.9% of fansubbed anime is done A few notes: 1. If you ripped from DVD and you have aac audio, no conversion is needed. If you have wmv audio, you will want to convert or you will have a gigantic mkv in the end. 2. The best guide to all things audio & video is here: www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/ if in doubt, check the doom9 forums for more info. 3. If you ripped from DVD, you can't just dump the vobs into an mkv. You will have to convert it first using DGMPEGdec (also found in the amvapp) to create a d2v file, then avisynth to read the d2v into vdub. You know what... this is easier explained in person. Tell me ahead of time and i'll bring my laptop to a meeting and show you how to do it in person. it's really not as hard as it sounds. If you've got any other questions, feel free to ask me. I'll be happy to help. You can also catch me on irc in #live-evil@irc.enterthegame.com Good luck!

Well tlynnec, will you be there at the Butte Hall on Thursday around 6:15 PM? It will take me some time because I have a class. If not, we can work it out at a different time and day.

I'm usually there on Thursdays, but I won't be around this week because of a conflicting event. I'm happy to meet up at another time though. Why don't you email me directly and we'll figure it out? My email is tlynnec AT live-evil.org

Now despite the fact I got help from tlynnec which I’m very grateful for, I still can’t figure out how to make a mkv file. Does anyone know an easiest and simple way to do this process?

This seems as good a place as any to ask for computer help. I was told to post my information on my new computer and Mike and/or Sean would look over it and tell me if it is any good or not. It is an Eee PC made by ASUS. And the model is EEEPC 1005 PEB. I can only find the Eee PC 1005PE on the internet so maybe the B stands for Best Buy, that is where my mom bought the laptop. Well there may be some differences, it think, between what is online and what I have. Here is their website; www.asus.com/index.aspxThanks for your help. Later, Michael
