What is your favorite series? Is it your favorite because of the storyline or graphics? Is it associated with something that makes it more special to you, such as a memory? What makes a series one of your favorites? Is the genre a big factor?

NOTE: No series bashing allowed. This is a discussion about what we like, not what we hate.

Favorites come and go....but anyone who knows anything about anything can vouch for me when I say 'once you get a tattoo of something you pretty much admit you will love it eternally'
With that said, I will forever and a day love the anime Sailor Moon. Not only was it my first anime (I disintinctly remember wearing little tennis shoes with Luna on them at one point) but it has remained oen I can return to time and time again.
Sure, many people hate the anime, and granted some of the parts of it are a little cliche (read: ALOT ) but that doesn't make it bad. The graphics really weren't that good until later in the series, especially the final season and the SuperS Movie, but the storyline was one that every little girl could get into (and the flashes of nudity or bewbies here and there appealed to some males). I grew with the characters. To me, Sailor Moon is what made me what I am today- an otaku. Without that first step...without seeing it when it FIRST aired in the US, I wouldn't have been truly introduced to the world that is anime.
Plus.....Tuxedo Kamen/Mask will forever remain my dream man (although he is being replaced steadily by Motoki/Andrew every day)

I can't decide. My top three (I think) are: DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Digimon (the original series). I really like everything about all three of these with a few exceptions. (Saiyaman, for example.) They're not associated with anything for me, though. If I was to pick the anime that is most connected to my childhood, it would be Voltron. Anyway, one of the things needed to be one of my favorites is that there has to be at least one character that I would want to be. (Gohan or Goku, Yusuke or Kurama, and Tai or T.K. in these cases.) Also, I like fighting. There are a lot of anime out there which I like that don't focus around fighting, but even a lot of those have some. (Such as Wolf's Rain or Fruits Basket.) Anyway, I really like seeing the characters fighting for something important. So, there we go. I just wish I could have actually picked a favorite.

One Piece fan here. XD Been an addict for the last 4 years. Sure, its never going to end but thats part of what makes it so awesome. I don't have to worry about it ending and feeling like I still want more (GTO and Kare Kano are good examples of this). Luffy is my favorite as you can see on the left. I mainly read the manga every week as it gets scanslated and every once in a while watch the anime subbed. I can't stand the dub or at least the 4kids attempt at it. I'm hoping Funimation does a better job.

What is one of your favorite series? Ghost in the Shell Why is it your favorite? Major is a cool character, in that she is strong and intelligent. It is also for the surreal world that is enveloped in computer logistics.
What makes a series one of your favorites? Is how much I like care for the characters. how each of them affect each other and myself.
Is the genre a big factor? Genre is an initial factor. I’d start with an image of the series and if it is portraying a feeling that I’d be interested in discovering its origin. This is where the genre would kick in. Is the art style and genre choice something that could flow well together? Next would be the description, what is it about the story make this story its own? Stuff like that and then come my friends’ interests and those initial episodes I see as pres pics.

its hard to decide which one but Id say Naruto, mainly because I love the relationship oriented past all characters have. Whether its Maito Gai and Lee and his determination, Neji and Hinatas feud or Itachi and Sasukes hatred, all chars have an interesting note to hit. I guess thats always why Ive like it a bit more than Bleach.

LOVELESS... the animation to me (as well as the manga art) is extremely colorful and beautiful but the storyline is complex, deep and dark. I love cosplaying a Soubi from this series manly because he is my polar opposite in every way and I always find it fascinating to walk in his shoes. Plus the fact it's a shounen ai series is always a major plus for me ^_^

I liked GTO and Gurren Laggan so far. I also enjoyed Nagasarete Airantou and Seto no Hayanome as well. I used to watch Naruto and Bleach a lot, but when the fillers came in, I felt more attracted to the manga scanlations over the anime.....damn those retarded fillers.
Right now, Casshern: Sins is looking really good right and I am watching that.

Gundam Wing is what got me into anime because before then my only exposure was Sailor Moon (ugh) and Guyver, which at the time terrified me (I was five). Yeah I watched DBZ and Pokemon, but only because everyone else did. But now that I've exposed myself in a very quick amount of time to the entire width and breath of the Gundam multiverse, Wing is kind of lacking. The original UC Gundams are probably my all time favorite out of the whole franchise, with the best being 08th MS Team. Zeta is in a ridiculously close second followed by the films Char's Counterattack and Gundam F91. All because the mechs (or mobile suits) are pretty realistic, the politics are interesting, and the characters are pretty believable. UC Gundams are the only Gundams that treat the Gundams like slightly better custom mobile suits, and not unstoppable god machines.
But if Gundam got me into anime, I would say that Fullmetal Alchemist solidified my interest in anime, probably forever. FMA is the series I watch to remind myself my I continue to like anime in the first place. It's funny, it's sad, it's awesome. It's animation but it's not for kids, even though the humor can be light hearted it throws no punches and the philosophy behind it can get pretty heavy. Hell I'm going to go watch it right now. See you guys later.
